Parliamentary Reception

Last week Outside the Box hosted a Parliamentary reception in the Scottish Parliament.

The reception allowed Outside the Box to showcase their projects, in particular their Connecting Equalities project, to over 50 guests and MSPs.

One of the resources on display for guests and MSPs to take was the ‘Creating welcoming spaces’ resource made by the women last year.

This resource contains hints and tips for welcoming New Scots to local groups and communities. These tips have been gathered through the women’s own experience as New Scots and they hope it is useful for others. This proved to be the case as it was one of the most taken and read resources!

As the reception fell during Ramadan, the women created a video to be screened during the reception to explain to guests and MSPs more about their work, the group and why they were unable to be there in person.

MSPs and guests were very keen to learn about the group and what the women are up to next. The reception allowed Outside the Box to show pictures of Moments of Freedom events from the last 5 years and showcase all their good work in their community.

After the success of the video presentation, the women want to make more short video clips on different topics they think are important. They wish to share their culture through informational videos on Islam, their community events and their cultural integration work.

Keep an eye on our social media over the next few weeks and months to watch them!
